Asking for help takes courage and is a sign of strength, not weakness.

The Myth.

There is an unfortunate myth that counselling is only for people with major problems.

I have heard from many people that they would have come to counselling sooner but they didn't think their problems were severe enough.

If you ask me, this is very unfortunate because had many of these people come in to counselling sooner, their issues might not have gotten so bad if addressed earlier.

Counselling is appropriate for people with "major" and what you might see as "minor" concerns alike.

Why

Counselling?

There are many reasons why you might consider counselling.

Are you:

Feeling stressed, overwhelmed, nervous, unhappy?

Struggling with strong emotions and finding it hard to express them or finding that no one in your life really understands?

Dealing with something that has been around for a long time and you are now ready to address it?

Dealing with anxiety, nervousness, worry, or fear?

Dealing with a breakup, the death of a loved one, or a major life transition?

Noticing that you are really hard on yourself and that you do not really like yourself these days?

Doing fine but wishing you had more confidence, self-esteem, and happiness?

These are examples of reasons that people seek counselling.  There are of course, many other reasons that you might consider counselling.

Please do not feel that you need to have a "common" concern to come to counselling, as each person is unique and so each person's concerns in counselling can be unique too.

Positive

Personal Growth

Counselling is a process in which the counsellor and the client work together toward positive change and personal growth.

Therapy involves:

-a safe and confidential space for clients to express themselves

-a meeting of experts: the client is an expert in their own life and the counsellor is an expert in assisting the client toward positive change

-understanding, empathy, compassion, respect, and kindness from the therapist

-provision of therapeutic tools aimed at assisting clients in dealing with their concerns
